Pre-Theatre Offer for The Red Lion

April 10th, 2017

This April, we’re delighted to see the start of Live Theatre’s new production of The Red Lion. Come and enjoy our pre-theatre offer with our new Fixed Price Menu at Caffe Vivo. Make a night of it and dine in with 2 Courses for only £17.50 and 3 Courses for only £20.50.  Situated next to Live Theatre, we’re the perfect location to enjoy a meal before heading to the play.

The Red Lion runs from 6 April to 6 May and stars Stephen Tompkinson, well known for his TV appearances as DCI Banks, and John Bowler (Auf Wiedersehen Pet). The play has been specially adapted for Live Theatre and the North East. Set in the ultra-competitive twilight world of semi-professional football, The Red Lion is a powerful, funny and touching drama that reaches beyond the beautiful game, exploring contrasting ideas about loyalty, ambition and what it takes to win. Tickets £10-£26, concessions from £6, available at Live Theatre.

Come in and enjoy a relaxing meal before stepping next door to the theatre. Let us know you’re coming to see The Red Lion and we’ll provide you a pre-theatre sitting to ensure you’ll be finished in time for the show. Call us on 0191 232 1331 to reserve your table.

Festa Della Mamma

February 21st, 2017

Caffè Vivo usually has a day of rest on Sundays but not on Sunday 26th March. We’ll be open for lunch to give ‘Mamma’ a well-earned rest. We’re keeping things simple, just like the Italians do, with a Fixed Price Menu which will include traditional heart-shaped cheesecakes for dessert. So, gather the family, enjoy some quality time together and express a little thanks to the person who made it all possible – your ‘Mamma’. A MACCHERONI MASTERCLASS

February 9th, 2017

Italians are renowned for being one of the most romantic nationalities – they are literally in love with love. If you can’t afford to whisk your loved one away to the country itself to celebrate la festa degli innamorati (the day of lovers), fear not because we have the next best thing – this month we share with you a lesson in pasta making - after all they do say the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach.

Marvelous Mallard

January 3rd, 2017

Winter brings with it an abundance of hearty game and one bird that really stands out is wild duck, or mallard if you prefer. Wild duck is much smaller than a farmed duck, less fatty and with darker meat. The meat from wild duck is uniquely outstanding – deeply rich and full of flavour. In season until around the end of January, you’ll be able to catch it on the menu this month (subject to availability of course). We’re talking roasted breast and slow-cooked leg, because tasting the varying flavours of the whole bird is the best way, served with suitably Italian accompaniments of truffle mashed potato and cavolo nero.
