Just in – Fennel

July 27th, 2010

You either love it or hate it  -  fennel, that is.  A bit like marmite.  (Not the taste, silly, people’s reactions.)  If you’re the former, you’re in for a treat right now.  Fennel is at its best from now until early September, a lovely summer vegetable.  Its distinctive flavour  -  remember aniseed balls? -  can be addictive.  At Vivo, we like it so much, we have to ration how many times a week we eat it.  Well, it is one of the main ingredients of absinthe …

Come and see what we’ve done with it.  Thinly sliced in a salad, either as a simple, refreshing first course or as an accompaniment to grilled fish.  Or maybe braised with Parmesan cheese and eaten with grilled meat.  It’s also good as tempura.  It’s even pretty good cooked in sugar syrup and served as dessert…
