Situated on Newcastle’s iconic Quayside, Caffè Vivo models itself on an Italian Enoteca – a traditional Italian restaurant-and-bar with a warm, easy-going and fun atmosphere – the perfect place for a nourishing meal or a relaxing drink. Come and discover our simple, authentic Italian dishes.
As one of Newcastle’s best Italian restaurants, we serve top-quality food in an unpretentious atmosphere. Housed in a former warehouse – brick walls, cast-iron pillars – our style is casual, bold and bright. No frills, no fuss, just friendly service and convivial dining.

At Caffe Vivo, it’s all about good food, good wine and good service.
We serve authentic Italian dishes from many different parts of Italy. The style is simple, the cooking skilful, the food full of flavour. And dishes are generous. We like to keep you nourished. We shop local where we can, for fresh meat, fish and vegetables. Italian products such as pasta, rice, cured meats, olives and cheeses, we source direct from Italy.
In Italy, every meal comes with a good glass of wine. At Caffe Vivo, we have a great selection of Italian wines, all personally chosen, from easy-drinking to interesting wines from lesser-known regions or producers. All our beers are Italian. Not only that, we have Speciality Cocktails with a fantastic selection of Negroni, as well that essential Italian Aperitivi.
We’re open all day from 10am for coffees and drinks. During the week, lunch is from 12pm and dinner from 5.30pm. Saturdays, we’re more laidback and serve food right through from 12pm until 10pm. On Sundays and Mondays, we sleep.
At Caffe Vivo, we take pride in sourcing great quality Italian products, everything from the truffles through to the bottles of Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil you’ll find on your dining table.
High-quality, well-sourced ingredients are the foundation of good food and that’s why our charcuterie is sourced by Elliott and Alison, owners of The Ham and Cheese Company. They source directly from butchers and farmers across Italy. We purchase two particular products from them that feature on our Antipasti Misto Plank; Finocchiona and Prosciutto di Parma.
We source our black truffles from Piedmont, Umbria, Abruzzo – the richest of Italian’s truffle regions. We work with Wiltshire Truffles who provide us with the highest quality, fresh and wonderful truffles, with aroma second to none.
Planeta Olive Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil is, together with wine, another passion of team Vivo. Coming from the largest olive grove at Capparrina, at Menfi, our olive oil is created by the Planeta family, whose name is synonymous with the best olive oil and wine in the region. The traditional oil is produced from cold pressing of whole Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla and Cerasuola olives. They are a brilliant dense green, evoking pistachios. We’re proud to have this on our tables for you to enjoy with our home-made bread and your meal.
Aceto Balsamico di Modena IGP is made of wine vinegar from Emilia- Romagna. Produced in the Modena region of northern Italy, it is aged in wooden casks, through a process of evaporation and maturation which rises its characteristics: robust, richly aromatic, with a unique sweet and sour taste. This is a balsamic vinegar that’s uniquely different. The grapes are grown, harvested, crushed and their liquid – the “must” – is cooked in an open vat over fire for 24 hours. The barrels are kept in a Acetaia vinegar loft, where over a number of years, the precious liquid inside is lovingly cared for through traditional methods. We are very pleased and fortunate to offer these treasures of Modena.
Parmigiano Reggiano DOP
Named after it’s producing areas, Emilia-Romagna, this is a hard, granular cheese that has a sharp, complex fruity/nutty taste with a strong savoury flavour and a slightly gritty texture. With a minimum aging time of 12 months, our “Parmigiano–Reggiano” is from a protected designation of origin (PDO – DOP in Italian).
